Mount Meru

Mount Meru Mount Meru is a dormant volcano located 70 kilometers west of Mount Kilimanjaro in the country of Tanzania. At a height of 4,562 meters it is able to be seen from Mount Kilimanjaro on a clear day, and is the fifth-highest mountain in Africa. Mount Meru is located just north of the city of Arusha, in the Arusha Region of Tanzania. It is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania, after Mount Kilimanjaro. The Momella route – which starts at Momella gate, on the eastern side of the mountain – is used to climb Mount Meru. When climbing, you are more than likely to see giraffes, buffalos, antelopes and baboons; accompanied by park ranger for your safety.

Mount kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro is a sacred place. The Region of Kilimanjaro is even named after it. When people think about climbing mountains in Africa, the Tallest, mountain Kilimanjaro comes to mind. However, in Tanzania we have several small mountains including mount Meru, Mount Oldoinyo lengai, the active volcano mountain. Mount Kilimanjaro Mount Kilimanjaro or just Kilimanjaro, with its three volcanic cones Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira. Uhuru Peak is the highest summit on Kibo's crater rim. It is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest single free-standing mountain in the world, with its summit of 5,895 above sea level. The first people known to have reached the summit of the mountain were Hans Meyer and Ludwig Purtscheller, in 1889. The mountain is part of Kilimanjaro National Park and is a major climbing destination. Animals are rare on Kilimanjaro and are more frequent in the forests and lower parts of the mountain. Elephants and Cape buffaloes are among the animals that can be potentially hazardous to trekkers. Bushbucks, chameleons, dik-diks, duikers, mongooses, sunbirds, and warthogs have also been seen.
